Not sure what this Opuntioid is. The long spines look similar to Maihueniopsis 'nigrispina', but the tufts of short spines in the areoles look different as does the flower, which is more like 'ferocior'.

It was clear that this was a site that Tito had visited before from the way he bounded up the hillside obviously in search of particular plants that he knew should be there. I toiled in his wake and this was the first indication of what he was searching for, Rebutia pygmaea. I hesitate to take the identification beyond that, but Willy used the epithet 'haagei' which I couldn't violently disagree with.
Edit: I've looked at these Rebutias again with John Pilbeam's book to hand and wonder if they could perhaps be Rebutia euanthema? The body certainly looks right for that species.
