Hi everyone.
Not posted on here for ages as been a bit busy, have been lurking though.
Got a small group of Conos a while back and they all sheathed over and went dormant, this week however I found a C.chrisolum had flowered from one of its 3 heads. Do I leave it till later in the year or should I water now and get it growing but keep it shaded.
Any advice is welcome as this is a new family to me and I'm finding it a bit of a head scratcher.

Re: Cono query
I have my doubts about the name. I would expect C. chrisolum to have strong pink flowers in October. Flowering now with white flowers (or are they pale pink?) sounds more like C. chrisocruxum. The plants are otherwise very similar and I wouldn't want to tell them apart. Perhaps Chris will chance along and clarify.
Anyway, no panic. There's obviously lots of green inside there and with hot weather on the way it will be happier staying wrapped up. Wake it up when days start to get shorter.

Re: Cono query
It definitely looks like it could be one or t'other.
My chrisocruxums are flowering at the moment and they are much pinker than this. I think perhaps the flower is overexposed in this shot. It is normal that these species flower at this time.
I would suggest that you do not water until at least the end of June. I'll probably start to water mine in July/August

Cheers Iann & Brian. The flower is a lot pinker than in the photo but not a dark pink, I'll leave it to rest for now.

Re: Cono query
Yes, I would say chrisocruxum - Cono chriSOLUM remains single-headed
My pink-flowered 'cruxums (all seed-grown by me, from MSG seed) have had their best show ever, this spring. A couple are still flowering. White-flowering 'cruxums do exist, but are rare.

Ever hopeful, trying to grow plants from arid sunny climates in the UK!

Re: Cono query
Definately 'cruxum - but they do vary in flower colour from pure white to deep pink.
