"The Jan.-Feb. issue was solely on Aloe, not anything i like to have a whole issue about."

This is always a problem with general societies journals because as peoples specialisations increase they migrate from general garden societies to say specialist cactus societies, and then if they contain only a few articles on the genera they are interested in move on to ultra specialist societies like the Mammillaria Society or Tephrocactus Study Group etc.

I think there is always a problem with general cactus and succulent societies like ours, or the American one, if any issue of their journal is devoted to a specific genus, or in the past even a specific individual. A complete mix of articles in every issue is required to retain the general membership or they will simply move to societies whose publications are more in line with their own interests.

A problem for journal editors, but I would suggest it is far better to serialise long articles on a specific genus, as usually seemed to happen in the past, than to have a single journal devoted to it at the expense of other genera.

Oooh, lovely. A whole issue devoted to Aloe. I can't wait for mine to arrive. This will at least help balance out their predominantly cacti articles over the previous year.

You see, theres two sides to every coin. Some folk will be overjoyed that theres a whole issue devoted to Aloe, whereas others shake their heads in dismay.

Cheers

Received mine today and just had a look, quick flick through the Nov/Dec 2010 issue and an even quicker flick through the Aloe issue, glad I wasn't looking forward to them and certainly glad I haven't resubscribed (td)

My point was that I like a good mix to read. When an issue like this is produced maybe it should be published as a special number at the side - like Kaktusy does. That would give more to everyone...

Mine has come at last. One of the penalties of having a "W" surname I expect since you are well down the mailing list?

I presume they threw in the extra issue for free to make up for the one on Aloe's?

I'm having a déjà vu moment - mine (or, rather, my branch library's) is yet to come. It's like December's CactusWorld all over again! Will mine be last this time?
