SALE OF WARREN'S GYMNOs

Post by David_K »

Many of you will have heard of the passing of Warren Withers, Coventry Branch secretary and organiser of continental nursery trips for around 40 years. During that time Warren built up an extensive eclectic collection, a very large section of which was devoted to Gymnocalyciums. These have been purchased by Warren through his extensive range of contacts throughout Europe including most of the plants that were held by Ernst Speks prior to his specialisation in succulents. There are around 510 Gymnos and I have included just a few photographs here to give some idea of the range of types and sizes involved. We would like to try and dispose of them as one collection.
Anyone, member or visitor, is welcome make an offer for them, this offer is also being sent out via BCSS Announce to enable Branch members to have a chance to bid. This is a private sale on behalf of Warren’s estate and the Society is not directly involved or responsible. It is the buyers responsibility to arrange for the collection and removal of the plants.

We believe that a starting price of £1,000 would be sensible, bearing in mind that it values them at less than £2 each. We will take the highest offer made by midday on Sunday January 22nd provided that the offer is high enough.

Please send offers to me either by PM or email to treasurer@bcss.org.uk or by post to 71 Lakes Lane, Newport Pagnell MK16 8HT. Please do not contact Warren’s family directly.
