several growing points are sprouting leaves as well - any advice weather I should water it or keep dry till spring ?- Aiko

Re: Late buds or early?
Is this the first winter with you?
Assuming all Euphorbia can better be treated as a summer grower in the northern hemisphere, I would suggest to keep it dry until April.
This is a nice Euphorbia, by the way. Do you have the full name?

Aiko - it's a Madagascan species Euph. itremensis - similarities with E.primulifolia etc. - I don't have much to compare it with - never seen another.

I'd say they are right on time. 'Dead tree' would probably agree with me

I ain't so sure that Ernst Specks will have any of these for sale, or at least shouldn't.

Hi Lithos
If the plant want to grow you can put some water in a cup (1-2cm) and put the pot in this cup for 5mn
Euphorbia itremensis is growing really high in Madagascar (near 2000m).In Itremo there is frost and sometimes snow
But the plants have no vegetation in winter and only the bottoms of the stems are exposed
