Manchester Branch Newsletters Book

Post by Chris L »

Although I think this will be more of interest to our own Manchester Branch members, I thought it might be worthwhile mentioning the book below here in case anyone else is interested in purchasing a copy. Orders are being taken and the book is due for release in August. It's printed on-demand via LULU.

There is lots of interesting articles in it. Show reports, meeting reports, nursery trips, pests, composts, personality portraits, specific genera, "desert island....", book reviews, plus lots more.

We've used a similar font to the Journal, and made the font a reasonable size for ease of reading.

I'm sure many branch treasurers will be interested to see how this works out, and what impact it has on branch funds in, say, a year from now. I know (because I came across some) that one of the South of England zones produced at least 3 yearbooks composed of articles written by members in the 1970s. As time goes on we seem more and more interested in the Society's history so there might be quite a market for this kind of thing. Presumably, the print-on-demand must almost eliminate the element of financial risk that would once have been involved in printing a batch of books and hoping they sell.

I have just received my copy of the the book, many congratulations Chris, also to Peter Bint and Manchester Branch members who have contributed.

The book arrived by post, very well packed, - it is a mine of information about the Branch's activities and also contains articles on plants and their cultivation.

It is a must for anyone who is interested in the history of the Society .

Well done Manchester Branch!!
