Very excited to be here!

Post by Cactipod »

Afternoon everyone.

I've been interested in cacti and succulents for around 12 years. I used to have a large collection in a lovely greenhouse, unfortunately life can go wrong and get in the way sometimes. Luckily I still have a small collection on the windowsills. I'm looking forward to increasing my collection again.
Today I purchased a small probogator for my newly planted seeds. I intend to have a greenhouse again once we move house but for now the windowsills will have to do.
I can't wait to get to know everyone here and learn more.

Hi Ellie & Welcome to the forum :welc:

Lots of members start over through the years due to one reason or another. I hope you have lots of luck with your new seeds, what do you have currently on the go?

Hello and nice to meet you carl.

Currently I have some mixed lithops seeds, some ferocactus and some L.karasmontana on the go.

I'm trying to be optomistic and hope they grow :)

Do you have any seeds on the grow currently?

Welcome to the Forum Ellie. Many of us started growing our plants on windowsills and I'm sure your seeds will do well. Good luck!

Evening Juster

Thank you for the welcome!
Hopefully I will be visiting a cacti nursery this month so the tables and cabinets are at risk next

That sounds good (tu)

I currently have a selection of Matucana sp. seed and Rebutia/Sulcorebutia seed I haven't grown any cacti before from seed (I'm not a very focused person and I get bored easily... )

Well not to bang the drum of the society too much  but if you joined the society you could access your local branches library which I'm sure is full of lots of books to read and flick through there is also a number of books available online for free at https://www.cactuspro.com/biblio/en:accueil there's quite a few good ones but most aren't easy reading...

There's also the free Cactus Explorers jounrnal which you can download and read here which is fantastic for browsing plants! http://www.cactusexplorers.org.uk/journal6.htm

Hi Ellie, as Carl says, l think you would gain a lot from joining the Society and attending your local branch. A good basic cactus book is John Pilbeam's 'How to care for your Cacti', there is a similar volume for Succulents. They are about 30 years old now, but second hand copies can be found. I'm sure there are others, but John's books are usually a good starting point - easy to read but full of useful information.

Yep +1 for John Pilbeam's books they are still good books with an easy and straightforward style.
