I'm reasonably confident I can tell my predatory mites from my two-spotted, but the problem with all the contact insecticides (of which there is plenty of choice, including good non-neonicotinoid options) is just that they depend on contact. Not a problem on a Rebutia but a real problem on a climbing Ipomoea. Hence my question about systemic miticides, which do not appear to exist!

Re: Systemic insecticide for red spider mite
Ladies and gentlemen I am pleased to provide a solution to this.
Looks like Bayer Movento has been approved for domestic usage, it is based off the latest ingredient spirotetramat which is a systemic mitecide and works against spider mites, mealies, scale insect etc.
Product information available at - http://cropscience.bayer.co.uk/our-prod ... s/movento/
I just got myself a box which is a bit pricey but looking forward to how it works!
P.S. do not consider this post legal advice or a recommendation to use this product.

From ebay (Italy)? seems the only source at the moment. At about pounds 23 to make up 8-10 litres of spray, yes a bit pricey.FaeLLe wrote:

Re: Systemic insecticide for red spider mite
Abamectin is a systemic (technically translaminar) miticide that has been available at times in the UK. I don't believe any retail product currently contains it, but it is is available from the usual sources as well as several EU countries. It is extremely effective against mites although resistance is reported. I have no idea what its current regulatory state is in this country, the last time I saw it was mixed with one of the neonicotinoids that was withdrawn a couple of years back (still sold elsewhere as Thiamectin).

I am confused by your post. The OP is about Movento, which seems to be active ingredient spirotetramat. I have also searched for documentary confirmation regarding UK (or EU FWIW now) approval for domestic use of Movento. In vain.iann wrote:Abamectin is a systemic (technically translaminar) miticide that has been available at times in the UK. .

Re: Systemic insecticide for red spider mite
The title of this thread is "Systemic insecticide for red spider mite", and the OP question was "Is there a systemic insecticide (available in the UK) that is effective on red spider mite?" One recent reply happened to mention Movento, and I mentioned a different chemical that can be used against red spider mite. Still confused?ragamala wrote:I am confused by your post. Mia culpa. After three years I had assumed new posts would have referred to FaLLe's post, and not resurrected otheriann wrote:ragamala wrote:iann wrote:One recent reply happened to mention Movento, and I mentioned a different chemical that can be used against red spider mite. Still confused?
So what's your assessment of the efficacy of "abamectin" versus "spirotetramat"?

None of the above give approval for domestic (garden) use. Movento is not approved for use by amateurs in the UK.FaeLLe wrote:Minor uses approval notice - https://www.campdenbri.co.uk/services/d ... ps2014.pdfragamala wrote:I have also searched for documentary confirmation regarding UK (or EU FWIW now) approval for domestic use of Movento. Movento is only approved in the UK for agricultural use on crops of broccoli/calabrese, brussels sprout, cabbage, cauliflower, collard, kale, lettuce and (through the minor uses notice above) hops.
All this is made clear in the HSE Pesticide databases.
It appears only Italy has approved its amateur use, which is why Bayer only market it in that country!
