Early Ariocarpus flower

Post by Tina »

Here is a small ariocarpus hintonii flowering today, seems a bit early but nice to see, I noticed it late this afternoon so the flower was closing.

Then I noticed one of my ariocarpus scapharostrus has four buds, not sure of the purity of this plant as its acting a bit strange and looks like it could be dividing but there are also some seed pots to harvest soon.

and finally one of my other ariocarpus has gone seriously fluffy this year, which would support my theory that the 'fluff' is there for protecting new growth as it has been so sunny this year.

This ariocarpus confusus has a seriously pink chunky seed pod, I don't remember ariocarpus seed pods normally being this bright or is it me ??, first lot of seeds from this plant.
Anyone un/confirm the ID of this I asked Ian woolnough but he wasn't sure, it has yellow flowers

Hi Tina, your ario collection is so wonderful. Yellow flowers are a sure indicator for A. trigonus. A. confusus should have anything from white to mid-purple flowers

I second Terry's opinion. Besides, my A. trigonus produce blood-red seed pods with a sort of rectangular cross-section.

Ok that's me told so does anyone have a plant picture of ario confusus ?.

Thanks for the complement about my collection Terry, its coming along.

This is a reason why I would recommend Terry's talk 'Favourite Mexicans' as he has habitat pictures and cultivated plants grown from seed of the same habitat plant, its always good to see the difference in cultivated// habitat plants.
