Conservation/cultivation works
Don't know why this photo is slightly out of focus, I will try and get a better one. Brighamia in full flower. Stem is 12 inches long. Lives in our bedroom. Very few left in the wild but are being cultivated well I think by the Dutch. It is critically endangered in the wild with very few examples left. There are some reports that it is now extinct in the wild.

Re: Conservation/cultivation works
It is a succulent.
Its a very good example of mankind keeping a species going. In the wild it relied upon a particular hawk moth to pollinate it however mans need for agriculture destroyed the moths habitat and they disappeared leaving this plant unable to reproduce. In the wild it grows on very inaccessible cliff faces.
BTW the other plants are some succulents and a couple of rare ant plants.

Re: Conservation/cultivation works
Thanks. I got it via the internet £15
I find the sorry behind this plant really interesting. I suspect that we now have a situation whereby the number of cultivated plants far exceeds the number that were growing in the wild at any one time. Does best as a house plant in winter. Summer it will go outside in a protected area.
