Confused Cacti
The recent mild weather has caused a few confused cacti in our collection to flower out of season. Like this rebutia, which is adding a bit of extra colour to go with the winter flowering mesembs, crassulas and aloes.

Re: Confused Cacti
Confused perhaps .... who cares when you are presented with a beautiful display.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Yes it's a strange year. I noticed yesterday that I also have a flower on Rebutia muscula, plus Gymnocalycium ragonesii in bud, makes it interesting and cheerful.

Re: Confused Cacti
I currently have a flower open on Astrophytum asterias which seems very odd, and also buds about to open on one of my Mammillaria Sanchez-mejordae which isn’t normally in flower this side of the new year.

Yes, several of my Astros have opened late flowers this week, including A. asterias, I think there is some opportunistic flowering happening due to recent sunny days (not today - it has been really dire!)

My Rebutia muscula has a bud still to open so I'm wondering if I might get a December flower on it this year.

Re: Confused Cacti
I've got a Ferocactus latispinus with buds developing. It did this last year too, but they came to nothing, although this year they seem more developed. On the other hand, I never seemed, until this year, to get my Leuchtenbergia to flower - it always made buds too late in the year in the past.
I do agree though, there's a difference between normal spring flowerers which have just got confused, and plants which flower late in the season anyhow (like Ariocarpus).
