When label doesn't help much...

My Sharpie ink fades within a year, and I've noticed that the labels of some of my seedlings in a zip bag only three months have already started to fade. I started using pencil, preferably #2 or darker.

My grandfather always used aluminium labels and a pencil for his prize winning dahlias and chrysanthemums which grew in full sun. Fully reusable labels which were recyclable when they ultimately became brittle.

Hi,
I have a Rotring pen must be 10 years old and still has ink in it and working. But i used it for drawing work not on my lables, but I might just give it a try.... I think the tip! is 0.5mm in size.

Have you tried putting it on a copier / printer /scanner? I once blanked something out with marker pen then scribbles over it with a ball point but the scanner could still pick the original wording up.

Rene used a Rotring Rapidograph, I understand.
I prefer a Pentel 209 mechanical pencil with a 2B lead, quick, easy and doesn't fade.

Have you tried putting it on a copier / printer /scanner? I once blanked something out with marker pen then scribbles over it with a ball point but the scanner could still pick the original wording up.

That's what I've done with my faded labels in conjunction with the brightness/contrast adjustments.

Might explain why I couldn't pull anything out of this label.
