Second wave of Lithops

Post by iann »

The August Lithops are flowering. The L. pseudotruncatella subspecies like ssp dendritica flower later than ssp pseudotruncatella.

Also, L. gracilidelineata. This one is ssp brandbergensis.

Some of my L gracilidelineata are in flower now, others seem to be biding their time. Next in line are L gesinae v annae and a few schwantesii. One ruschiorum obliged about a month ago, but that was probably a fluke.

A round-up of a few of the pseudotruncatella of the past month or two, in more or less chronological order:

One of the first was var volkii. Definitely one of the faster growing lithops, it will give any lesliei or aucampiae a run for its money.

Ps.trunc 'mundtii', one of the more typical pseudotruncatellas.

Archeri next. They start out looking a little greenish, then turn more greyish white.

An early dendritica (flowered together with v pseudotruncatella 'alpina' ). For some reason this batch (ex C072) is always way ahead of the other dendriticas.

Ssp groendrayensis, most have very blank faces.

Dendritica 'farinosa'. Nice transparent lines.

A nice pale form, ex SH a few years ago.

And L. gesinae v annae winding up:

Are those conifer needles you have added to the soil mix?

Spruce needles on top of the soil, my plants are outdoors under shade cloth. I remove them occasionally, but it's a losing battle...

Nor have I and no sign of any buds yet.

If one counts as First Wave ..... then it's it. Period.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Ssp. groendrayensis is one of my favourites. When you can see it under the flower.

I too am on my first wave. I don't know how Ian does it. And wouldn't you know it, it is one of Ian's.

Maybe you don't have any of the early ones? More or less the only June/July-flowering Lithops are L. pseudotruncatella ssp pseudotruncatella. Ssp. volkii can be early, but not very early and I've got one in flower now.
