Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles
Mike I don't think there is 'a real thing' like a Coca Cola christmas advert. I don't grow these these plants but have studied the 'flowers' quite a bit. From preserved specimens to mass grown stuff in Thailand and the Netherlands. I've come to the conclusion that like us humans, we're all hybrids. I could go on but don't wanna bore folks

It's an impressive flower spike but the colour is a bit wishy washy.

Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles
Have to say I am struggling to see that as Aloe perfoliata, which I understood was akin to distans/mitriformis et al and, indeed, gave its name to the whole group recently?

Yes, it's a nightmare of naming Paul. Our esteemed President considers it perfoliata. Who are we to disagree?

Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles
Your reply just now made me reach for the book he co-edited, Aloes: The Definitive Guide which I bought in a rush of blood but confess to having only flicked through. I can understand why he says that now. I assumed that name change was universally accepted but it seems not by any means. So I guess we can call mitriformis by that name still, plus all the others. As you say, Mike, a nightmare.

Re: Flowers for Succulentophiles
I have a few aloe hybrids from the Huntington program. Love the foliage, especially the leaf margins, and the silver color on one.
The one flowering is 'Marsha Leyhew'
The silver one is 'Princess Jack'
and the other is 'Gargoyle'
Don't mind the Golden Retriever hair on the plants, its everywhere, as they say, 'no outfit is complete without dog hair'
