Copiapoa ** andina variety

Post by DWDogwood »

Field number : BCHK 1415
Collector : BCHK - gerardo.cz
Species : Copiapoa coquimbana ssp. andina v. blumentritii nom. prov. cactuspro.com
Locality : Chile : Atacama (Rio HuascoII)

I’d order seeds and came up with plants that appear to simply be a less interesting brown spine variation of the much coveted yellow spine form.

As I have enough seedlings of the yellow one I figured my lack of bench space dictates that I’d just keep a couple brown form examples as a novelty. They just can’t compete with these:

Into the bin with the rest.

But then I felt bad.
These do have their moment.
I commuted their sentence and replanted them in a manageable single pot. They are slow anyway- they should stay for a few years until I sort it out.

So can any experts who have first hand knowledge of the field shed any light on the topic?
These “blumentritii” really do hold their own among the larger species Coquimbana.
I’m glad I saved them.

Well done, Dennis. I'm shifting out of the hobby now. Best wishes for the future my friend.

Peter thank you. Good luck with your shifting. You have a lovely collection, and fond remembrances of a Christmas past with the fruits of a crazy cactus adventure! Thanks again.
