Roy had a huge input into the world of succulents in general and the BCSS in particular and I leave it to others to recall his input and achievements which are numerous and varied.

Part of his life's work was the was the development of the Whitestone Library. I can report that this has been transferred to the Gibraltar Botanic Garden. I was part of the team that packed up the library during the week of our National Show. I brought a huge smile to Roy's face when I announced that his library was in fact larger than that of Gordon Rowley.

Roy was relieved that his life's work is now in safe hands and its continuity and usage are now guaranteed. I felt strongly that he hung on to see his library loaded into the large lorry that transported it to Gibraltar where a 200 year old building is being converted to house this valuable collection.
Cheers,
Colin

Funnily enough, I drove for the first time through the village (town?) of Mottram on the way to our 2022 National Show. I explained to my wife about Roy Mottram. Many of the books in my collection were purchased from him.

I, too, got lots of books from him and quite a number of plants, he had an eye for the unusual and observed things in a different way to most.
Very sad he has gone
RIP, Roy.
