forum and website

Post by Paul D »

I am investigating how to embed the existing forum into the new BCSS webite, so you might see some changes in appearance over the next few days. It might even go down for very short periods. Please bear with me, it's tricky.

There is a problem with the two sites (the website, and the forum) being on different subdomains, these being bcss.org.uk and forum.bcss.org.uk. Browsers will not allow one to be embedded on a page in the other without some complicated faffing about. This is to stop people embedding stolen content from other domains and passing them off as their own. I tried implementing the Wordpress plugin W3-all integration but it caused all sorts of problems. Am trying a new approach with meta tags today.
Another approach might be to move the forum to bcss.org.uk/forum but that would be a major undertaking.

Did you get it to work?
You can certainly solve this using a proxy eg mod_proxy if you use Apache web server.
Then you'd typically hide the subdomain and just have something like bcss.org.uk/forum.
It can be a bit of a pain to get working perfectly.

yes, got it working, after 3 days on it! It is now embedded on the website.
Next task is to change the appearance (a little) so it fits better. As you may have noticed I've cut down the header banner (temporarily). Do you know your way around phpbb Simon? I could really do with some help!
