Not a welcome visitor

Post by iann »

Armoured crickets do major damage to Lithops in habitat, but I was surprised to spot this visitor in the greenhouse. It didn't seem hungry, but I evicted it anyway.

Was that .... evicted .... cast out into the world to become the lunch for a predator? Or ...... squelched?
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

It's a grasshopper. Quite a rarity these days.

Almost as rare as a house that has grass these days? I sent it off to find some grass. It might have been happy to eat mites or mealies, but fingers crossed I haven't go any and I didn't want to test whether it is partial to Lithops.

I'm small, but I can't get through the mesh :( This week has been a pesky leafcutter bee digging holes in the bottom of various pots. They are persistent and won't be deterred!

I'd imagine that impedes the ventilation quite a` lot...

I had a persistent leafcutter bee digging a hole in one of my pots several years ago. Fascinating to watch but a real nuisance. They have an unerring ability to find their pot. Even if I moved it, the bee found it.
