Echinopsis 'Bridge' hybrid

Post by Mal L »

There seem to be quite a few Echinopsis hybrid collectors on the forum so maybe someone might be able to throw some light on the name attached to an old Echinopsis of mine. I picked it up about 20 years ago (source no longer known) and it was labelled as a 'Bridge hybrid'. Can anyone throw any light on its origins? Could 'Bridge' possibly be someone's name?

Collection mainly of cacti, though interested in a much wider variety of plants than I can accommodate!

Mal
I'm very new to cactus and succulents collection but I'm one of the Echinopsis hybrid folk.
I don't know the plant but I'd love to see pictures of it, particularly the flowers.

Could it be a reference to E. bridgesii (e.g. http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACT ... _bridgesii)?

Never heard of them as a group of Echinopsis hybrids.

A quick Google backs up Mat's idea,

https://www.trichocereus.co.uk/product/ ... ge-hybrid/

It says this is T.bridgesii hybrid.

But bear in mind that E. bridgesii and T. bridgesii are not the same thing.

Here is a recent photo of its flowers. Quite a delicate yellow with a little pink at the edges.

Well that doesn't look like a Trichocereus bridgesii hybrid!
Can you share a picture of the body just to confirm?

I wonder if anyone knows of a Bridge nursery back in the day? Or any other Bridge references?

Here are some photos of Echinopsis bridgesii in case you think that might be a parent?

Here is a photo of the body of the plant. It has had a rather hard life (with a constriction about halfway up the body) and would not win a beauty contest, but it makes up for it with its distinctive flower colour, unlike any of my other Echinopsis plants. It is 13cm high and 8 cm broad.

Thanks Malcolm, definitely no Trichocereus bridgesii parent in that!!!

Maybe someone will know of a Bridge nursery or other link.
