Columnar cactus - ID
This is a relatively new acquisition for the arid house at Winterbourne. Might anyone be able to ID this column at all? It looks very intriguing with the light spines at the top, the dark spines lower down!

Overall I've had a pretty good string of luck on IDs, and although I think is likely to be some Trichocereus, I'm going "out on a limb", to suggest that it's a Neobuxbaumia macrocephala.

Hi,
Very nice plant and quite a height. We think it is Trichocereus pasacana. Not likely to be anything very temperature sensitive as that would probably not have survived unscathed in this country. Hope it flowers!

Trichocereus pasacana was my thought, too. it does vary a lot - I have a few and a couple are just like that one.

Thank you very much everyone, I will let the Winterbourne team know. It would be nice to see it flowering - for those of you who know the Arid House at Winterbourne, the Trichocereus is planted where the huge Agave Americana used to be, fingers crossed it settles in quickly.
