Leo van der Hoeven

This is a notice to inform you that on 9 September Leo van der Hoeven passed away at the age of 78.

He traveled a lot to countries with succulents together with others and visited ELK multiple times, so I suspect many of you might have known him.

In 2019 he had a huge Tillandsia, which was so big it literally fell apart into smaller bits when it was lifted up. I got one of those (still big) bits and have kept growing it the years following. I keep it inside the kitchen and hang it in front of the kitchen window during winter, in spring it goes outside untill autumn. It flowered for the first time this summer, which pleased me a lot. A nice plant to remember him, but also his late girl friend Ivonne who died of cancer in late 2021).
