'Im incredibly sad to let you know that much beloved Birmingham Branch legend Derek Castle passed away peacefully yesterday in hospital.
He's been the heart and soul of the group for decades and I cannot express how much he will be missed.
The most genuine and pleasant man I've ever met. '
Very sad news indeed. RIP Derek.

Derek was such an active member of the branch and society, always friendly and helpful, and gave a lot of his time to giving talks to branches. He will be missed greatly. Condolences to his family and colleagues.
Sad to hear he has passed. He was the person who really got me collecting thanks in part to an Open Garden Day visit. So kind and generous.
