Conophytum herreanthus
This was a gift from a dear friend during the dark days of Covid. It's labelled as from seed 2012. It's the first time it has flowered for me.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Great plant Terry. The diversity of form in Conophytum always amazes me - mainly that no one has split it into a half dozen (or more) genera!

Don't start me off on "splitters and lumpers"
This plant started it's recorded life in a genus of its own.
Herreanthus meyerii.
As I have said before ........
I collect plants not species

Whereas I love the back and forth of classification!
Though I'm less happy about trying to work out whether my Agave schidigera plants are that species, one of the three new species split from it or a garden hybrid between two or more of the complex!

Re: Conophytum herreanthus
Don't get me wrong. I love the tussle of a well reasoned scientific debate and the solving of an analytical problem .... but some of what I see could be merely conjecture or opinion.
That's why I grow what I like and dismiss what I don't enjoy. Perhaps also why I enjoy growing hybrids. You like 'em or you don't. But then it's me that's weird.

Re: Conophytum herreanthus
It is quite possible that a lot of current "species" are actually of natural hybrid origin- generally there is not the data to rule this out anyway.
So for this reason alone, growing any hybrids is worthwhile, even at the cost that understanding them might create some new classifications. Win win!

Your plant seems to have a rather small flower compared to mine:

Cono flowers do tend to grow as they age.
