Still needing a name

Post by iann »

While I was snapping for the show, I decided to try and get a name for this thing. I'm pretty sure its a Trichocereus.

May be a Stenocereus, possibly pruinosus

Stenocereus? I thought they all had relatively short spines, some radials plus one or more obvious centrals? These spines go up to about three inches long and a fairly shiny yellow-brown fading to dull grey-brown.

Here it is with M. geometrizans. Should give you a better idea of the shape, size and colour.

Myrtillocactus geometrizans can have spines, I think it's just been selected for spineless/short spined breeding to make it a better grafting stock.

Whether the spines can grow to the length of Ian's plant is a different question though, I've seen them with spines about an inch long but some of the spines on Ian's look to be even longer again.

It's not a Corryocactus of some sort, is it?

The spines look like Stetsonia coryne, but the body does not seem to fit... :shrugs:
