That's a woolly Aztekium Sandi, do you just water from below to keep all that wool on it?

Dave, it is grafted on Myrtillocactus and its outside the whole summer so it was often watered by rain. But whe I watered I did water from bellow.

It must be a woolly clone then.

Be brave Sandi.

Take it off the graft and root it.

It can be done....

Yes, but rather risky, Mike! Aztekiums have a woody core that is sometimes reluctant to throw out roots, they often dry up before they root. If it is a precious plant (and I bet it is!), I'd just progressively bury the stock. I've got a large multiheaded one that was grafted many years ago, and left it on the stock which is now buried.

I also have three 12 yr old seedlings on own roots which are very woolly!

I know it's risky Diane but he who dares wins!

I degrafted a Uebelmannia and a Discocactus in spring. The Disco rooted up but the Uebelamannia dried up pretty quickly.

Growing plants on grafts seems like cheating somehow unless it is highly variegated.

I bought a Pseudolithos a couple of years ago grafted onto a Hoodia. The Hoodia rotted!
