Re: A trip to Lakerveld
Quite a few 'lollipops' around. I know it helps cultivation
but I can't yet bring myself to like anything stuck on
a pole. I have just two grafted plants in my collection
and both are invisible. One is Discocactus horstii that I really
wanted and was happy to accept the graft.
How easy/stupid is it to degraft some of the more mature specimens?
Thanks again for these Vic, I found myself mesmerised by seas of
ariocarpi and oceans of Lophophoras!::o

Thanks for another treat, Vic.
I was relieved to see that his private plants weren't sticking up in the air! Personally I think the en masse grafting exaggerates the ugliness of grafted plants.

Nice collection but I must say find the grafted plants are pretty ugly on the whole.
I'm sure the Lophophoras are verrrry popular in Amsterdam. (well until they close down all the specialist shops anyway.....

Generally speaking, a bigger grafting stock will last much longer than a short one. With age the stock will become woody and lose efficiency. Short stocks get tired qicker, so the scion will need to be regrafted much earlier, or it will suffer.

Very much appreciated, Vic. Great pics of great plants. I hope to be able to visit these fabulous nurseries some time.

Belated happy birthday but I'm surprised you have not shown a pic of the 'Messiah' as Hans is known in Dutch clog circles. Heres one when he was extracting money from the wallet last year.

I have been growing C & S since 1968. A lot of my plants were imports in the early 1970s. I am a Crawley branch member sometimes!
