Hi From Hampshire

Post by Carl »

Hi Everyone Image

I've just started out with Epiphyllums and so I thought I'd join the BCSS and the forum as I like the idea of growing some other flowering Cacti (any recommendations?) I also have a small Echinocactus grusonii which I inherited with our current house. I studied horticulture at college a few years ago but so far I haven't put it to any use, so I hope I also might be able to help people with more general questions  I'm also a moderator on an online gardening forum and I've also joined some Epi specific forums over the last few days as well.

so far my epiphytic cacti collection consists of some unrooted cuttings from a local eBay seller:
  • Selenicereus grandiflorus
  • Epiphyllum 'London Sunshine'
  • Epiphyllum 'Pegasus'
  • Epiphyllum 'Millicent Ballard'
  • Epiphyllum 'Cooperii'
  • and a very well rooted cutting of Epiphyllum 'London Desire' from another source
I've now got them in a tub of perlite rooting so fingers crossed

I'd like to add that this is how I found it in October and since then it has had some water

You have your first 10 posts moderated unless you're a BCSS member and get put into the BCSS members group. It's a bit of a pain both for you and for us moderators but if you saw some of the spam that I see you'd understand why we have to do it to stop the forum being overrun. I've dealt with 20 examples already today.

When I know you've seen this, I'm going to merge it in with your Hi from Hampshire thread :)

Thanks Phil I thought as much, merge away or do as you see fit Image I joined the BCSS yesterday when I created the forum account but I assume my member number will come through the post so I will get to my 10 posts long before it arrives Image

Hi Carl, I get my messages moderated too at the moment but Im slowly getting towards 10 messages. Welcome to the forum too - another based in Hants I see (Im in Southampton).

Absoletely stupendous flowers on some of those plants (had to do a google image search) - theyre not my favourite cactus as a plant (are they anyones?) but the flowers are as extravagant as heliconias, gingers or strelitzias. :musical:

I received some Echinopsis hybrid seeds I bought on eBay the other day through the post so I will get on with sowing them this afternoon  any suggestions on a compost mix? I have Perlite, Grit Sand, Hort Grit and some bog standard compost on hand
