Each month we are going run a feature thread linked to the genus of the Plant of the Month that is featured on the home page of the website. This month it is Gasteria, feel free to post pictures of your favourite Gasteria, growing tips, questions about cultivation in fact anything about Gasteria. If these prove successful then I will link the thread to the Plant of the Month article to provide visitors further information.

To contrast with Sachi's photo, a habitat shot of Gasteria bicolor var. fallax last November at Swartwaterpoort:

Re: Genus of the Month - Gasteria
I think Bill's puzzle is this one Gasteria batesiana,
that warty skin is very characteristic.

Then there is this one Gasteria armstrongii
This next one always seems similar to me but with a velvety texture
Gasteria glomerata, not my best one I lost that a couple of cold winters ago
Next Gasteria bicolor
Finally Gasteria baylissiana

I'd be thrilled if anybody had some identification suggestions.

From this years (unfortunately the lighting in the hall we use murders my camera's ability to focus - either that or it is the shakes from trying to resist buying more plants):

And my notes and photographs on the Birmingham Branch website from Dr. Tony Roberts' talk on Gasteria last year:

Finally, there is also his article in the Cactus Explorer journal on Gasteria Rawlinsonii (that Gasteria that helps you receive digital freeview!) that was recently mentioned here.

Re: Genus of the Month - Gasteria
Here is my G armstrongii just after I bought it 2008 at the National Show. It has flowered every year since and is growing quite strongly even going so far as to pup. When I can find my more up to date picture I'll post that too. My other two are of debatable naming, so I am pleased to see this thread as I find photos more help than words when seeking ID for a plant. The article is also welcome in the Journal, so thanks to whoever thought up this idea. Also checking you out on Facebook so keep up the good work.
