I just saw in vol 2 the obituary of Suleyman Demir. That was a shock to me, very sad news.

Superb work! I have often thought there is a close association between art the the appreciation of plants so I was particularly pleased to see this aspect covered. Also good to see some of my favourite plants - Obregonia, Neolloydia, Mammillaria hernandezii etc. I hope I can keep the latter going a bit longer by following the advice given.

I also did not realise that Suleyman Demir had died. He was a regular contributor to the forum and combined his hobbies of cacti collecting and photography. He specialised in Coryphanthas and did some wonderful photos of them. Although I didn't know him personally he always came across as a great man.

Hi All,

Xerophilia No. 5 is scheduled to appear online in one month’s time (on the 30th of June 2013). The edition is closed now and we’re working on layout, final touches and proofing. It is possibly to have it ready before month end, if so there will be an announcement made.

The feature article was written by Leccinum J. García Morales : The golden Mammillarias of Tamaulipas, Mexico. One of his habitat pictures is also on the front cover:

We were also pleased by the success of the Romanian version of The Stone Eaters (our first special issue). An English version is due to appear in August.

Cheers,

Look forward to that Eduart as my Mammillaria carmenae has flowered delicate pink therefore I can't yet decide if it is a hybrid or if that flower colour exists in habitat? From the journal cover you illustrate there is obviously a trace of pink on some outer sepals so it will be interesting to see what colour variation exists in habitat since the plant has been hybridised so much in cultivation.

I can't seem to find the original white flowered carmenae, as in your illustration now, since I lost mine some years ago and there are so many hybrids around now.

Yes DaveW, I'm looking forward to reading about these plants too. You are right, most of what you see today are crosses with laui etc, courtesy of the dutch nursery trade. Below is a snap of one of my 'original' plants now in a 7in pan, taken a few minutes ago. The main stem has long gone horizontal disappearing to the right in the photo. PM on its way.

Just had a browse through Mâncătorii de Piatră - that's going to be a source for much discussion on here, given that soils are a topic we already discuss quite a lot. I'm looking forward to the Eng edition in August. (tu)
