The annual North West Mesmeb Show will be held on Saturday 11th October at St Thomas More Church Hall, Kirkway, Alkrington, Middleton, Manchester M24 1PP The show is open to the public from 10.30am and the show will be judged by Alice Vanden Bon at 11am. Alice will also present the afternoon talk at 2pm with a presentation entitled 'From the Cape to the Orange River'. After the talk the show will close.
Schedules will be circulated to all branches within a reasonable distance from Manchester but a request for a schedule by PM to me giving your name and address will result in an immediate response. This year we are unfortunately without the services of Ian Robinson who will be unable to come due to prior arrangements. This means that the prize for most points in the show will be won by someone else this year. It also means we could do with a few more people to exhibit their plants to maintain the excellent display that is always on show.
Entrance to the show and talk is £3. There will be plant sales and continual refreshments supplied by our willing kitchen team till 1.30pm. For entrants staging begins at 8.30am.

Re: North West Mesemb Show
Not long now until the North West Mesemb Show, this is one of the last big events of the year in this part of England.
It is a great day and has a super Show of Mesembs, - my plants have put on a very good show of flowers this year and as I get them ready to take to the Show in Manchester on Saturday I hope that they are all still in flower!
As well as the Show, there are plant sales, a lecture by Alice vanden Bon in the afternoon, - with refreshments provided by Manchester Branch members, the bacon baps are not to be missed!
Apart from the plants and the food, I alway enjoy meeting the people who come to this event every year, and having a chat.

Those who are able to go and can bring a camera, please post photos!
Mesembs are photogenic indeed... the shows seem late in the (UK) growing year, for those more familiar with spiny things and TCPs (you'll usually see a few of these at a mesemb show) for a very good reason - many mesembs are at their best and showiest in autumn, and can be almost guaranteed to flower.

Ever hopeful, trying to grow plants from arid sunny climates in the UK!
Lithops, Haworthia, Adromischus, other south African succulents including Ceropegia and some Crassula.

Re: North West Mesemb Show
Another good day out at the Mesem show. There were plenty of excellent entries and a lot of plants for sale, plus Alice Vanden Bon's delightful talk about her tours of Southern Africa searching for Conophytums and finding many other interesting Crassulas, Aloes and Mesems as well. Many thanks for all those who put in the hard work to put this show on and not forgetting the caterers.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

I took one or two photos. I'll put a small selection here shortly, and the others on the Manchester Branch Website, as usual. The page is already there, just needs filling!Lindsey wrote:Those who are able to go and can bring a camera, please post photos!

Lots of really nice plants again.

Re: North West Mesemb Show
It was a great show on Saturday, with many entries, there seemed to be more plants in flower this year.
The good news was that both Chris and I took cameras, the bad news is that we did not take any photos!
I think that I was too busy looking at plants and talking to people. So I am very much looking forward to seeing ChrisL's photos.
Thank you to Peter Bint, Brian Darnell and all Manchester Branch members for organising such a splendid day.
The bacon baps were very much appreciated, the catering was organised by Ann and Jim, who was resplendent in apron and chef's hat,- hope Chris has taken a photo!!

Yes for some reason Photobucket is saying I've hit my monthly 10GB bandwidth limit. I've put a bit more info in the other thread in the main forum.
You should be able to see them now.
Thanks.
