For many years I tried to prevent this plant from leaning over and taking up space on bench that I did not have. Eventually I gave up and allowed it to do its own thing lol. Can some one tell me the species please. Thank you

There is a photo on the www showing something similar growing down from the bottom of a hanging pot.

Not saying that is what yours is, but probably close.

I suspect that it is one of the many forms of Mammillaria albilanata, probably ssp. oaxacana, but I can't see the areole formation (spines etc) clearly enough to be certain. Could you do a close up of a few areoles?

I have the same problem with a Pelecyphora strobiliformis. Next time I repot it I think I shall use a trough. It won't solve the space problem, however!

Hi Chris, yes I will do that tomorrow in the sun light. I have an update, I did find a faded label in the compost lol, I think it may be "applanata" but that's a guess as the writing is very faint. Cheers. ps I googled applanata , it meant flattened, my plant is no way flattened.

It probably reads "albilanata" then, Eric, which was my thought too.
