Dunno, but whenever I log on Bitdefender complains that:-
"An attempt to send your password unencrypted, in plain text, was prevented on this page. View more details in the Notifications area of your Bitdefender security solution."

This is happening because the Forum is using http instead of https, all browsers will now flag http sites as insecure. All web sites should now be changing over to or using https, in fact a lot have already done so.

Agavedave is right - but the website should be configured so as to do this automatically. Mine does...

Thank you Agavedave and Ralph, now fixed, although I would not claim to fully understand.

How does adding an "s" achieve this?
Does it point to a separate site, or does the browser or whatever is behind it, treat the data transfer differently? Or...?

I've always assumed that the HTTPS websites show an "s" because they have special security in place to prevent, or at least deter, fraud. I wouldn't have thought that a user could make a site secure just by adding the "s" themselves.

I used Chrome as a browser and both the address bar and the grey banner above Forum rules show "Not secure". This must surely be because the site is not secure but not through anything I can personally do.

In my experience most websites that have HTTPS in their address are sites that process sensitive information of users, eg banks and retailers.

I'm with you on this Rod.
It's the provider and not the user who give the "s".
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

What's interesting is that the society banner changes with or without the s. Without the s we have the lovely old logo with the white rose. With the new we have that new logo about which enough has been said, on a background of the half-obscured flower pic which looks as though a fog descended over half the brain of the designer. I am not sure in this day and age the banner should stress the patrons of the Society so strongly. Many people, including younger folk and international visitors, will not recognise the names or understand the significance.

Let's Grow Together is certainly snappier than "Research, Conserve, Educate, Cultivate and Propagate", but again I maybe prefer the latter, although my choice of word would have been "inform" perhaps rather than "educate" as it sounds a wee bit less patronising. But that niggle is long past.

So I will continue to prefer the version without the "s". Although it seems I have no choice on my mobile, when the new version is thrust on me, causing extra scrolling down past the banner. Maybe in a few years I will get used to it unless severe arthritis sets in.
