Rene Geissler RIP

Post by John Foster »

I've just heard that Rene Geissler died a few days ago. The family will be having a private funeral.

Former nurseryman, zone rep, speaker and judge, Rene was 94.

Very sad news, a gentle and pleasant man who grew, and sold, great plants. RIP Rene.

So very sad, a true gentle-man, one of the first nurserymen I ever visited when I joined the hobby. RIP.

Sadness from me too, I still have a few plants acquired from him at least 30 years ago. My condolences to his family.

I too have plenty of interesting plants acquired from René - he was certainly a good grower, and a kind hearted chap too. I was very happy to receive his KuaS journals when he wanted to pass them on. He will be missed.

I too was sorry to hear this news. I bought a number of plants from Rene over a four year period; all of them were well grown and the labels everlasting. Rene was a very experienced grower and was always very happy to give advice and encouragement.

On a family camping holiday to Cornwall in 2005, when constant wind and rain forced an early retreat, it was a hastily planned stop at Rene’s on the way home that prevented my holiday from being a complete washout and was the highlight of my trip. Rene and his wife welcomed us warmly and I enjoyed a couple of hours with Rene in his greenhouse.
I came away with a box of interesting and well grown plants most of which are still growing well with me.
Sincere condolences go to to his family and friends at this sad time.
