Hi All,
Here's a little surprise for Monday morning: a little new e-zine from the Southern Hemisphere called "Carpophyma".

Re: Carpophyma
I’ve seen it all now! Complaining about plant label misspelling then spelling a queue of people as cue!
I have been growing C & S since 1968. A lot of my plants were imports in the early 1970s. I am a Crawley branch member sometimes!

Re: Carpophyma
No, you didn't see it all John.
You criticize a small typing error on my part (a word replaced in vain, indeed - and there may be more of such errors in this issue) without knowing the mutilation of the plant names I'm talking about. I referred to dilettantism at the level of a group of "exhibitors". Not many, but unfortunately dominant.
And this is not all... just a tiny part.

I certainly did not criticise, in fact I am amazed that Auckland seems to be going through a tough patch as it were. when I was there some years ago the plants and the people were superb. There was a man named Stan Bowman? Who had some fantastic plants and his nursery was for sale. He had planted out seed grown plants from the Horst Uebelmann expeditions in the early 60s.. There was a Dioscorea that had to be seen to be believed, it was massive. The plants that we saw in New Zealand were just fantastic and I often wonder if they are still going strong.

Re: Carpophyma
I found some slides that I hope will give some idea as to the superb plants to be found near Aukland,

Re: Carpophyma
Plants and people are still amazing in Auckland, but things have changed over the 18 years I am living here. Unfortunately most of the true collectors don't show up at the Auckland show.
