Frailea flower

Post by Ali Baba »

I grew these two from seed a few years ago and their offspring are busy growing but this is the first time I have had an open flower. Not sure what prompted it to open a bud but it’s a welcome sight

Lovely flower. Do I take it that you don't expect Frailea flowers to open?
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Awesome! I don't think I've had any of my frailea open.

I've had dozens of flowers on these 2 seedlings, but they always set seed without opening.

I only have a couple of Frailea. Both have have flowered. Both have had more seed pods more than the flowers. But angelesii is the only one I have managed to have seedlings from.

That’s interesting, seed from this one comes up like cress provided the seed is sown as soon as it’s ripe

Yes I'd been told to sow as soon as harvested and ripe ..... "it'll come up like cress". The angelesii has done so.
