Few mins...

Post by AnTTun »

I mean 'few' mins to graft, few 'mins' to pot and few years of waiting to see what I get.. Ah, patience...

Interesting using an unrooted rootstock. Is the Opuntia that vigorous that it doesn't impact the success?

The 'novelty' Hylocereus grafts seen in garden centres are grafted on unrooted stock. They travel half way round the world before they're potted.

@edds: so far, 99% of opuntias grew roots. I wish I can say the same for 'cerei-type' grafting stock :)

Thanks both. Never even thought of doing that, though I will be using Pereskiopsis for seedlings (hopefully!)

Some time ago I used unrooted pereskiopsis cuttingss for grafting because the stock grew way too tall. I wasn't too happy with the results because pereskiopsis dries faster on top if cut at bottom. Of course I could have been wrong way back then because I had less than 50 'volunteers' to play with. And I gave up, pereskiopsis roots fast & easy anyway...

Hi AnTTun;
Are those Opuntia elata unrooted stock you are using, I ask because I have a few of those to spare which I could use for grafting.
At the moment I am using Hylocereus and Harrisia stock but these are already rooted plants.
