Is the forum dying?

Post by Herts Mike »

It hasn’t been lively for some time but there have been just 2 posts in two and a half days.

A blip or sign of the times? Maybe it will improve with the weather.

Personally I prefer Facebook groups which deal exclusively with my particular interests. I only log on here quickly to see if there's anything (of interest) which there rarely is and log off again.

I'm hoping it's not in its final days.
I'm not a fan if Facebrag
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Hope not but sometimes you put up a post/pict, you can get over 200 looks & only 1 comment so they like looking but can't be bothered to comment, even saying you have an ugly plant/bad taste in plants would be better.

It used to be more fun even when people were being rude about the TCP's.

It was a silly move to start the sub forums, aloes haworthia etc. I never even look in them & maybe others don't look on the main forum.

varied collection of succulents and cacti but I especially like Euphorbia's, Ariocarpus and variegated agaves.

I am sure we had discussions like this before… Personally, I am not particularly specialist in what I grow so greatly appreciate the breadth of topics on here. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current lull was weather-related!

I don't think there have been that many active members in the time I've been using the forum. I don't like posting on the FB group as it's so public but I can appreciate it's more accessible than using this forum.

Attendance at the Nottingham branch meetings has been on the low side as well this year now I think about it.
Growing in Nottingham for the past 4 years and recently found my way to a Nottingham branch meeting. A few plants on a windowsill has very quickly turned into a greenhouse full!

Attempting to grow a range of turbinicarpus, coryphantha, escobaria and several other cactus genera. Tylecodons, pelargoniums and conophytums keep me occupied in the winter and an ever expanding number of gasteria live under the bench.

Well, if the only comment one can make is "nice plant", that might be nice for your ego as the original poster, but has really no value at all for all other forum members. I personally don't need to see anyone's approval if that is the only contribution they can make. I like looking at a picture and reading some background story and there is nothing wrong with just absorbing and nothing else. If you don't have anything to say that is contributing, don't say anything.

Most of my plants are only just waking up after the winter, so I tend to post and comment in the summer months.
It has been very quiet on here over the last two months or so.
I agree with Tina there was more banter in the past and maybe the sub forums have split the posts from the main forum.
I think the main worry is the small number of regular people posting, but I notice the American forum has been the same of late.

First, I agree with Aiko. Many times a new reply was flagged and I opened the thread only to see a (tu) or another "smilie", which is a bit boring to be fair.

I need to dig out those threads about TCP's, I think this should be an official name of one of the show classes!

And subforums make perfect sense, would you rather see all threads mixed together? When I'm looking for an information on Haworthia, why would I need to go through discussions about cactus hybridisation or hobbies?

Am I the only one using the "show new posts" feature?
