Just a few Gymnocalycium flowers from recent weeks. They have quite a variety of blooms and colours.

My Gymnos have put out some flowers too, now that it has cooled down a bit. One or two of my plants are looking a bit the worse for wear...

I used to like Gymnocalycium but now I'm totally besotted with them. It's the genus which keeps on giving for most of the summer.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

The second flower is stunning, but the plant indeed looks like it has seen better days

I have always enjoyed this genus for spines and dark, mostly glaucous bodies, but seeing this deep red flower of G. carminanthum is something special.

Some beautiful flowers and plants (and buds!) there. Is the problem with yours sun stress, Ralph? I read once that Gymnos need lots of bright sunshine for the buds to open and flowers to come out, yet the plants seem to get stressed in bright sunshine - something of a conundrum?...

Mine have seen a big improvement this year after repotting in an ericaceous mix, better growth and more flowers. I suspect they need a soil change more often than usual to keep them happy.

Lovely plants, Jean.

Thanks all, and thanks for your additions Ralph. My G. damsii is looking very ill, although it has still flowered. Diane I use ericaceous compost, and also give them a feed about once a month with a half strength ericaceous feed.

Lovely Gymnos! How old is your G. taningaense? It's a beautiful plant...
