I've gone through two of the white ones from Woodies in the last three years. About €20.
They work fine-ish to begin with but then just fall apart, leak or become sticky. Or all of the above.
I'd be into fixing things, but you'd want a masters in plastic surgery to get any good out of these.

The second one from Ronseal is about €50. I assume it would work ok in the greenhouse?

The third one, again about €50, but gets very bad reviews.

The hozelock one is top of the range, about €70. But again the reviews aren't great.

Any thoughts?
I'd prefer get value for money rather than have to throw away some cheap crap after a few months.
Any care or tips would be welcome also.

I have had a Hoselock sprayer for many years. I believe they originally took over ASL Killerspray which was the main brand in the 1970's. I have a replacement washers pack including grease for the pump, but not got around to fitting them yet. However that should put ii back to new condition through stopping any slight pressure leaks as washers wore. ASL seemed first to bring in the plastic bodied sprayers since before then most were professional ones having heavy brass bodies.

You can still get spares for even the older models to recondition them.

Some spares on EBAY too.

I almost posted the same question months ago, for the same reasons.

I went for the Hozelock in the end from B&Q. It has a three year guarantee, so hopefully.....
It's already fallen once and survived. Certainly needs less pupping than my old one.

The third grey one above, also from B&Q had very little information on the outside of the box. All in German. The online pictures look good but I wasn't prepared to chance the risk.

I can understand why some of the reviews are bad. The assembly instructions could be better. But I think I got it right. The strap isn't great.

What type of grease is recommended for these Dave?
The manual says to grease some parts but it doesn't say with what specifically.

Hi Habanerocat

Not yet got around to reconditioning mine with the replacement washer kit but the grease just looks like ordinary car grease. I presume its just used on the inside of the pump cylinder and the steel rod of the pump? Can't see there is much else to grease, don't think it applies to the other washers only in the pump cylinder.

Never bothered using the strap it just stands on the floor or top of my steps for top shelf in greenhouse.

For me personally brands didn't matter, I found over the years that anything I kept in my shed was the problem (freezing water I think), I went through water butt pumps, pressure washers, sprayers & hose attachments etc. I keep everything in my garage now and they last.

I've gone through quite a few of these small sprayers. After going to a pesticide course I saw some much better knapsack sprayers, more pricey, but much better in terms of constant spray pressure, easier to use, sits on your back, more volume and a variety of spray nozzles, extendable lance. I settled for this one in the end, and I now have two of them, one for greenhouse pesticides and the other for farm track weedkiller: https://www.agrigem.co.uk/berthoud-verm ... 00-sprayer
I get the job done in less than half the time.

Best not to leave plastics in the sun in the greenhouse as they denature due to UV radiation after a time. I always leave my sprayer under the greenhouse bench out of the sun and have had it about ten years now. Also liquids do not compress unless under extreme pressure, but air does. Therefore don't overfill and leave a reasonable air gap to pressurise.

My wife had the same model as this, and it exploded while she was pumping it up. Nasty sharp edged pieces of plastic went flying. Trading standards need to get this model taken off the market for safety reasons.
