The Lullingstone Open Show at Cactus at the Castle.

Post by Vicky »

As part of this year’s Cactus at the Castle weekend at Lullingstone Castle on 16-17 September, the team are pleased to be running a competitive show on the Sunday, which will be open to anyone to enter.  There will be 20 classes for a wide range of cacti and succulents and the event will have a celebrity RHS judge in author and BBC gardening presenter Jim Buttress, the People’s Gardener, who will be joined by the BCSS’ Les Hewitt.  Exhibitors will have free entry to Cactus at the Castle.

There will be prize cards, certificates and trophies for the winners with a top prize of a year’s free entry to Lullingstone Castle.  In addition, there will be classes for cactus and succulent photography to be judged by Lullingstone’s Sarah Hart Dyke.

One-day admission to the event, which will also includes the biggest cactus & succulent mart in the South with 27 sellers, Mesemb Study Group Show (Saturday only) and talks by Graham Charles and Paul Hoxey (Sunday only) is £12.50 (public), £10.00 (BCSS members) or £6.00 (Cactus and Succulent Review subscribers and Mesemb Study Group members).  For those attending on Saturday, entry on Sunday is half the appropriate price band.

I regret to announce that the Mesemb show planned by the MSG will not be taking place due to illness. Needless to say, there will still be many other attractions at Lullingstone Castle on Sat. 16th Sept. including the Cactus Mart with ~25 cactus and succulent nurseries, tours of the World Garden led by its creator, Tom Hart Dyke and a "Bring and Sell" plant auction.

Best wishes,
Derek Tribble,
MSG Chairman
