Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Mike are those sea shells I see, I know some Ariocarpus growers use them.

Yes they are Ray. I only use them on a few plants but they seem to work.

I wonder if it's not just the added drainage, if I am not very mistaken releasing any calcium from shells takes some serious acid treatment.

You can buy crushed shells as a byproduct of seafood production. But a walk along the beach followed by a few minutes with a lump hammer are much more satisfying. Calcium release and acid reduction are much slower than limestone.
