Small conophytum behaviour

Post by Danibcn »

A lot of conos are now flowering and broke their protective sheet here in Spain since a week or two ago approximately.

Smaller species, like pubicalyx are completely sleepy.
Do they wake up later than other species?
Do you give them water to promote growing?
In general, do you treat them different from bigger ones?

We have 27°C to 15°C here actually, maybe they need lower temperatures...

Thank you all!

Such a small plant may well be dead......try to carefully remove the old dry sheath to see what's inside. We've had a few discussions on Facebook groups where growers have lost conos during this last hot summer.

You are right.
I removed a bit of sheet today, it's green on the inside :D
Would you wait with no water until the old sheet gets broken by themselves?

It’s more than ready to grow now so give it a good soak.
