Gasteria pollination

Post by Mike P »

Two questions
1. Is Gasteria rawlinsonii self fertile
2. If it is how do I pollinate it.
Thanks

As far as the answer to fertility, I don't know. As to the pollination, I often observe hummingbirds feeding on these upside down blooms. The result from this are numerous self sown seedlings near the plants involved. I would assume that the analogous birds, like Sunbirds, may have a similar appetite. Perhaps the use of reformed cotton swabs may be of use for both "selfing", and hybridization.
