Hildewintera 2024

Post by edds »

I always get a few buds overwintering on these in my office. Most fall off but the occasional one will persist and flower earlier the next year.
However the timing of this one surprised me by starting to swell in January and then today it opened!

These plants are perfect hanging plants for my office and much more reliable performers than other cacti in a slightly warmer space (8oC minimum and almost every day in mid to high teens). I need to test some out in full indoor conditions in the future and see whether they are still as reliable flowerers.

Nice looking plant Ed.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

That's beautiful, handy that your work environment is so good for your plants.

I saved some seed from my Hildewintera hybrids last year, and will be sowing them in March. I look forward to seeing the results...

Good luck Ralph - the germination rate on my HWH hybrids is pretty abysmal! Got a few crosses that are a couple of years old and some seedlings from last year though.
