BCSS National Plant Fair - 10-11 August 2024

Post by greatnorthernexotic »

A couple of questions about the National Plant Fair in August, which I'm posting here since the original Admin post is locked.

- Is the event just sales? Or are there talks or other things happening too?
- Do branches (or more realistically zones) ever put on coaches for these types of events?

Thank you

I can answer this one, from https://bcss.org.uk/bcss-national-plant-fair/
This is a National event in lieu of a Convention. While the focus will be on plant sales, there will also be talks and other attractions.

The Society is planning to attract as many sellers of succulent plants in the UK as possible, under one roof. In addition to the sales areas there will be displays and information from a number of ancillary societies and groups, as well as two talks by recognised experts of the hobby.

The main "announcement" thread is locked, so I'll let myself ask the question here. Hopefully the right people will see it.

Would it be possible to add short "resumes" of the confirmed traders, what plants they specialise in etc.? I know some names, but others are new to me, and I am certain I am not the only one in this situation.

Not very easy for the organisers to do, but you can get most of the information by going to the sellers' websites, if they have one. Many of these are listed on the BCSS website.

Absolutely. Maybe this could be made mandatory with the submission next time? It's certainly easy for the traders to write a couple of sentences about themselves.

I think something went wrong with the initial details sent to nurseries. I hadn't heard and got the info from another nursery. One of the 'regulars' at Cactus Marts hadn't heard when I was speaking at his branch last week. Maybe all the sellers not on the list should be re-contacted. It should be a good event but the current number of nurseries needs to double to attract enough visitors.

I would certainly be interested in these Tina, I use them a lot and bought some from you at the National. However, I shall only make the trip if I feel there will be a good range of plants for sale.
