Perhaps this will actually flower

This is a Ferocactus herreae in bud, it looks like this years sun may have brought the the possibility of a flower. These plants (for me anyway) seem to abort the buds before they get to this size so I may be lucky, I have two plants with this size buds on.

Looks like it has a ways to go, but very healthy. Lets pray for a few more weeks of good weather.

I find par of the trick with preventing the buds of (closely related Leuchtenbergia) to flower is to keep the soil a good deal moister during bud growth than one might normally.

The buds are swelling a bit, I watered them last night as Mike sugested so perhaps it will work
