Re: Copiapoa cinerea PM198

Well done, looking great. I flower most of my Copiapoas every year and have several blooming now, but the cinerea that I’ve had for well over 40 years has never flowered. It remains a solitary ball the size of a grapefruit. I used to live close to the Preston-Mafham collection and have several plant...

Re: Neoteny

Here are my two pots of the same name, these under the collection number ZJ651b. They were bought a few years ago from a Czech online seller. This form appears a little larger, but still happy in a small pot.

Re: The first of many

Great display coming. My plant has been cut down to ground level several times in its 40+ years in my care. It’s currently no more than 2” tall, but I expect 2’ and flowers within 4 years

Re: Oreocereus in flower today

This one has been flowering regularly for several years. Once it was 4’ high it started. The decapitation and rooting knocked it back, but I’m pleased it is back. Across two stems I think there are seven or eight buds.

Oreocereus in flower today

I had to top-cut and re-root this after it hit the greenhouse roof. Two years later it’s now rooted and back in flower at a manageable 3’ tall.
I think it is O. hendricksenianus, but the original label has been long lost.

Re: How hot do cacti get?

Interesting pics Ralph, but I wonder how trustworthy this camera really is. For example, why is the stone around that Rebutia quite so hot? 60c is decidedly toasty and that stone looks pale in colour. I wouldn’t expect it to be so hot. I don’t know the conditions in your greenhouse, but I would be l...

Re: Ariocarpus

I understand the scepticism, but it may be harsh. Look at the full set of plants on offer and they are from all over the place, globally. There are also a mix of ages. I think a more likely explanation than illegal import is that the seller is a son/daughter facing the sad task of disposing of their...

Re: Ariocarpus

I looked at that sale and wondered....looks like a mature collection being sold off.
Several of the Arios have lost their roots. How would the experts recommend bringing them back to their prime? I don’t think my skills with Ariocarpus would be enough.
Some lovely looking plants there, though.

Re: Watwrproof/heavy duty labels

I buy the cheapo ribbons for my P-touch which runs WiFi to my laptop.
I’ve not had any significant problems with them. I do have problems with the Brother tapes, essentially being that they are anything but cheapo.....
