Re: Bio green phoenix 2.8 heater.

If you’re not up to diy electrics, getting an electrician to repair this is likely to cost more than it is worth. These heaters are excellent quality and pretty simple to work on, if you have sufficient skills. I expect the spares will be available from Biogreen. My three have never let me down alth...

Re: Pterocactus - Jewels of the Cono Sur [download]

A question for the experts: I’ve always grown my Pterocacti in relatively shallow pots, but chosen a wider pot to give root room. I’ve never had an issue with plants pushing themselves up and out of the soil. This wider pot means the stems sprawl largely within the confines of the pot, something I f...

Re: Pterocactus - Jewels of the Cono Sur [download]

Thank you both. Now I just need to find a way to print this that will do justice to your super photos! Having bought plants from Poland for several years ( I don’t know where to get them in UK), I tried seeds from ADLPS for the first time this year and was worried when they all looked the same. Your...

Re: plant identification

35 and 117 look very similar to Espostoa plants in my collection ( maybe yours are a little more ‘hard grown’)
64 and 64 could well be forms of Echinopsis. Flowers will tell you.
Other than that, I’m totally guessing.

How do you care for a plant like that? What’s the winter regime?

Re: Where can I buy cactus gravel from online?

I’ve pretty much stopped using decorative top dressing as I realised it was delaying drying of the soil. I now use a very open mix which forms its own top layer after any fines have settled a touch. There was a super ebay supplier of all sorts or aggregates, including a lovely dark volcanic grit, in...

Re: Mealy Bug

I agree, they are a pain. I’m lucky to have a professional spraying licence so I have access to several insecticides that the general public do not. I am currently rotating between four different actives....with these I have pretty much eliminated root mealies and thankfully now only see the odd abo...

Re: Small square pots

I bought recently from the Manchester BCSS source mentioned by Chris.
Excellent pots, good service. Why import, unless you are after thousands?

Re: pure pumice?

The German ebay supplier, natursteingarten, or something like that, was shipping excellent stuff. I’ve got three or four bags in store, but hope they are back in business supplying to UK soon. Even with shipping from Germany, they were cheaper than I could find in UK. Maybe a UK supplier could work ...

Re: I've never started watering in February before.

My Pterocacti got watered yesterday. Light misting has started on other cacti, but not enough to wet the soil, just the epidermis.
