Re: Differences between "T. valdezianus" and "T. valdezianus v. albiflorus"

Maybe the flowering sequence is a bit different. But probably not much, if at all. I get the idea the white flowering ones are a bit earlier than the pink ones. But that needs to be observed for many years in a row, but it might just as well be the other way around in other years.

Re: Top shelf plants???

Can't you put some shading cloth above it?
If you already have made room for plants, just get the plants to put them there!

Re: Mammillaria talk tonight

That's okay. They can keep things for members if they want to. But then I don't understand why there has been a mention of this talk in the BCSS news letter, which is a different society! If you mention it to non-members, I would expect it to be open to anyone. Otherwise let the Mammillaria Society ...

Re: Mammillaria talk tonight

Nope. Strange. It was mentioned in the BCSS news letter, so one might expect it to be available to non-members too. Otherwise, what is the use of mentioning it...

Re: Mammillaria talk tonight

If I am correct there will be another Mammillaria Society talk on Thursday. I see the details are available in the members area (I am not a member). Will the details also be made public, just like the one in March?

Re: Something else unexpected

Watering Pediocactus and Sclerocactus ss. in the summer is the easiest way to kill them, much more so than E. polycephalus. How about Echinomastus, by the way? Echinomastus not so much. They're just plain touchy at any time  I have one E. unguispinus that seems fairly resilient but I've killed...

Re: keeping plants cool the computer way

I also have a 5 square meter greenhouse as of this winter. It has one tiny window that can be opened. But I just keep the door open. It is a bit cooler than in my big greenhouse currently. Its 22C outside in the shade, but with a lot of sun intensity all day and a wind force of only 2 beaufort). My ...

Re: keeping plants cool the computer way

After 25 years having my plants in a big 30 square meters greenhouse without any cooling, I don't really see the use of fans. I have four windows open almost throughout the year. They are only partly open as I use a brick to keep it open, the window is still down facing so it will not be picked up b...

Re: Ludwig Bercht

Very sorry to read. A few years ago we visited him. I won't forget his half cotton tips. Every (sub)species had its own for pollination. I never visited his collection, although wanted to for quite some years. But today was the sale of the plants in his collection to individual enthousiasts. I have...
