Re: Atacama flowers
Most of the flowers in the most arid parts of Chile will be Therophytic plants - those with very short life cycles that tend to exist in the wild as seeds for most of the year. I believe a lot of the ephemeral vegetation consists of various kinds of Mallow (Malvaceae). In slightly less arid parts th...

Re: What is the smallest opuntioid?
Cumulopuntia rossiana v. fuauxiana cladodes are often diminutive, but I'm not sure if they're the smallest, but it's probably the smallest I own. Maihueniopsis minuta also tends to be quite small.

I have so many nicely spined plants that I'd love to post, but here's a small selection.

Re: Woohoo! Boophone time again!
Beautiful Brian, my baby Boophone surely have at least a decade to go before they'll be flowering sized. The foliage is still very nice on them.

Re: Yavia cryptocarpa
Seems to be quite a rare species in Europe as a whole. Succseed have occasionally had seeds and plants in stock, although last time Mats was selling seeds they sold out within a few hours . ADBLPS have also listed seeds for sale, but they probably sell out very fast as well. Grafted plants c...

Re: Massonia wittebergensis / Drimia elata summer dormancy?
I usually leave my Massonia dry when they're 'meant' to be dormant and wait for them to start moving. You could probably get away with watering them every 2 weeks or so, to encourage them to break dormancy. Massonia seem to be a bit odd. Some of my winter growing species have only just begun losing ...

Re: On the persistence of seeds
Maihuenia seem to germinate very erratically. Leaving pots of Maihuenia outside, exposed to the elements probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Depending on what you're trying to grow from seed, it's a good idea to keep pots containing seeds around for as long as it's practical. Especially things ...

Re: Does anyone sucessfully grow Sclerocactus?
I seldom go to meetings, due to a lack of transport and I usually have other commitments. The only events I tend to go to are the mesemb show and the cactus mart. I'm still very much a beginner to Sclerocactus and Pediocactus, so I don't really have the experience to give a great deal of solid advic...

Re: June 2015 Plants named after......
Named in honour of Harry Blossfeld Jr. and after the fictional island of Lilliput.
Quite a good one in my opinion, named after Karl Schmiedicke and Christian Klinker.
